Blumhouse has made an attempt to mine glory from the original 1974 slasher flick, Black Christmas, with a remake — the second remake overall. Black Christmas has received mixed reviews from critics and negative reviews from audiences, but some people have found some Christmas joy in Sophia Takal ‘s latest thriller. The film stars Imogen Poots, Cary Elwes, Lily Donoghue, Aleyse Shannon, Brittany O’Grady, and Caleb Eberhardt. If you’re torn about whether or not you should see the movie in theaters and prefer to wait for it to arrive on a streaming service, we can tell you if it will eventually make its way over to Amazon Prime Video. Unfortunately, as a Universal Pictures and Blumhouse production, Black Christmas is not likely to wind up streaming on Amazon. Instead, the movie will go to HBO. However, thanks to Amazon Video Channels, you can sign-up for an HBO subscription with your Amazon Prime account. You might not be able to watch free but you will still be able to watch the film through your Amazon Prime once it becomes available. As for when you can anticipate seeing it on HBO, previous Blumhouse film Happy Death Day 2U took about 8 months to make the transition. This one makes it look like a great movie! Seriously guys, this movie had no quality plot, writing, thought, or direction. The characters were exceptionally bad and unlikable and had no depth. The scares were cliché and very unoriginal. It's a total introvert to the 1974 cult classic. The original actually had suspense, a creepy atmosphere, scary scenes, and an effective direction. This one had none of those things. br> I'm very surprised because Blumhouse usually makes quality films, from my experience. Very disappointed.

From Blumhouse Productions, the studio known for low-budget horror flicks like Paranormal Activity and Happy Death Day, this is technically the second remake of Black Christmas. Directed by Sophia Takal, who also co-wrote the script with April Wolfe, this remake stars Imogen Poots, Aleyse Shannon, Lilly Donghue and Brittany O’Grady as sorority sisters hunted down by a mysterious stalker. (The 2006 Black Christmas, from director Glen Morgan, starred Katie Cassidy and Michelle Trachtenberg. ) For the uninitiated, the 1974 Black Christma s is often considered one of the earliest slasher films ever made. Though it received some not-so-great reviews when it first came out, it since gained a cult following, and even partially inspired John Carpetenter’s more famous 1978 slasher, Halloween. The film stars Olivia Hussey, Keir Dullea, Margot Kidder, and Andrea Martin as sorority girls who received lewd, threatening phone calls from an unknown villain who stalks and murders them. Black Christmas may be a low-budget slasher Canadian film from the ’70s, but thanks to a cult following and a reputation as one of the horror greats, it’s also available to stream pretty much anywhere you can find a major studio film. Black Christmas: Culture Wars, calling out male-dominated abusive college societies. A bit heavy handed at times in its's didactic nature. Opens like a typical slasher film, girl followed in snow by hooded figure, killed. Girls disappear on campus, a security guy doesn't take it seriously, you just know he's going to be useless, he eats white bread. Some women form a singing group and play a prank on the Alpha Male students of a fraternity, outing their abusive culture. The men do dress up in hooded robes for their Fraternity Rites but could they be linked to the killer? Some good horror scenes especially when the arrows start flying and an icicle is used as a deadly weapon. But the women fight back and a set of keys is quite capable of severing a jugular, as is an axe. More could have been done with the material especially the supernatural stuff but a nice vein of dark humour runs through the film. Average horror which didn't live up to it's satirical potential directed and written by Sophia Takal. 6/10.

I'm all for a girl power kick the slasher movie, but when the movie isn't scary and the slasher is plural, telegraphed well in it if your fighting the good fight and men are evil (or incompetent for plot reasons, but then, so we're the girls till they needed to be strong) otherwise save your money.
